Sacha Baron Cohen to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury?

Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play Freddie Mercury in a movie about the Queen singer's life, it has been reported.

The comic - who reportedly based his character Borat's look on the late music legend - is said to be the front runner to play Freddie seeing off stiff competition from Johnny Depp.

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Filmmakers are working flat out to get the best possible script. Sacha loves the idea he can get away with playing Freddie after modeling Borat's look on him."

The movie is being developed by Robert De Niro's company Tribeca Productions.

Last month, it was reported that 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star Johnny was in talks to play Freddie.

'Bohemian Rhapsody' singer Freddie - who passed away aged 45 from an AIDS-related illness in 1991 - was widely considered to be one of the greatest performers in British rock history.

Sacha, 35 - who is best known for his comic alter-egos Ali G and Borat - is currently working on Tim Burton's forthcoming movie 'Sweeney Todd'.

The BAFTA winner is engaged to Australian actress Isla Fisher, 31.

And let us just point out, if Freddie Mercury were alive today, he would easily be the most bad ass gay dude on the planet... knocking George Michael down to #2

Borat Breaks up Pam and Kid Rock?

Following up on our Pam Anderson / Kid Rock divorce news - it looks like Kazakhstan's 4th most popular celebrity might have been the reason behind the recent split.

Quoting this news story -

The couple reportedly entered into a blazing row (British for argument) after watching BORAT: CULTURAL LEARNINGS OF AMERICA FOR MAKE BENEFIT GLORIOUS NATION OF KAZAKHSTAN at a private screening together.

Onlookers claim Rock, real name BOB RICHIE, became enraged by his former BAYWATCH star wife's role in the spoof film - in which Borat, played by SACHA BARON COHEN, travels across America to get close to the blonde beauty. A close friend of the pair tells PageSix.com, "(Film producer) RON MEYER held a screening of Borat at his house for a bunch of people, including Pam and Bob. It was the first time Bob had seen the movie, and, well, he didn't like it. "Bob started screaming at Pam, saying she had humiliated herself and telling her, 'You're nothing but a whore! You're a slut! How could you do that movie?' - in front of everyone. It was very embarrassing.

"Pam thought he could have a sense of humor about the movie. She was in on the gag from the very beginning and loved doing the movie. And on the eve of what was supposed to be a very positive thing, he made it an awful night. Ever since that night, it has been icicles between them." Anderson filed for divorce yesterday (27NOV06) after less than four months of marriage.

Whoa wah wee wuh! Lighten up BOB! Let's hope he's less dramatic during next week's private screening of the Pam and Tommy Lee tape.

Borat - Deleted Scene

Due to time restraints, scenes like this had to be cut out of the new Borat film, due out in November.

If this wasn't funny enough to stay in the movie, we're going to guess this movie will be hilarious to the 37th power.

Borat on Cover of new Vanity Fair

Cooterpunch.com has seriously been swinging on Borat's nuts lately. And why not? He's probably the funniest character in showbiz right now.

This latest Borat news is definitely the coolest. According to RadarOnline, Sacha Baren Cohen will be on the cover of November's Vanity Fair magazine.

What's not known, however, is if Cohen will stay in Borat character for the VF interview or if he'll actually let the mag interview him, the non-character. He rarely gives interviews out of character and his other popular alter-ego (Ali G), conducts the interviews. Either way, it's a bold move on Vanity Fair's part and great news for Borat fans everywhere.

The buzz for November's Borat movie is truly growing at an insane rate.

"Is niiiiiiice!"

President Bush to Meet With Kazakhstan President Thanks to Borat

Following up on our "One of the Funniest Movies You Will Ever See" post, it looks like fictional character Borat has pissed off the Kazakhstan government. They're so pissed off, that the Kazakhstan president is flying to the US to meet with President Bush to discuss the upcoming release of the movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakhstan president has confirmed his government will buy "educational" TV spots and print advertisements about the "real Kazakhstan" in a bid to save the country's reputation before the film is released in the US in November.

Maybe actor Sacha Baron Cohen and the folks at 20th Century Fox should be thanking the Kazakhstan president for the free publicity, because this is great.

One of the Funniest Movies You Will Ever See

F Snakes on a Plane. Screw Pirates of the Caribbean. Ricky Bobby can eat it. The movie you NEED to see is Borat, coming out this November. Actually, the full title is Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen (above, also known as Ali G). And just to give some quick props to this guy, he's dating the "Stage 5 Clinger Virgin" from Wedding Crashers, the smoking hot Isla Fisher.

Since words can't begin to explain the awesomeness of this movie, view the 2 trailers below to see for yourself. More info on Borat here.
